Texas Has Kicked Off Construction On Historic Floating Border Barrier

Construction crews in Eagle Pass, Texas, began work on a new, historic floating border barrier on Monday. This project aims to strengthen border security by acting as a deterrent for individuals attempting to cross the border illegally, particularly in high-traffic areas along the Rio Grande. The installation of the barrier is seen as a response to the increasing number of fatalities among immigrants trying to cross the river, highlighting the safety hazards that come with illegal border crossings.

The new barrier will consist of a series of floating buoys, positioned to prevent people from easily entering U.S. territory by water. The installation is part of a broader effort to address the ongoing challenges along the southern border. Texas officials believe the floating barrier will provide a more effective and immediate solution in areas where illegal crossings are most prevalent.

Lt. Chris Olivarez, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, shared several videos via Twitter showing the construction crews in action, marking the start of the project. These visuals have underscored the state’s commitment to reinforcing its border security measures in response to the growing concerns over immigration and safety.

The project was ordered by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has long advocated for stronger border protections. The Texas Legislature has already approved funding for the barrier, with the expectation that it will play a significant role in curbing illegal crossings and reducing the number of dangerous incidents on the Rio Grande.
