San Diego County faced a challenging day on January 21, with three separate fires breaking out in Lilac, Pala, and Friars. Local agencies, schools, and utility companies collaborated to ensure safety, manage evacuations, and mitigate fire-related disruptions.
The Lilac Fire was reported early in the morning at 1:19 a.m. near Old Highway 395 and Lilac Road in Bonsall. The blaze spread across 85 acres, prompting evacuation orders and warnings. By the evening,
CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire reported 50% containment. Firefighters utilized aerial resources and closely monitored wind conditions to contain the flames. While evacuations were lifted later in the day, certain roads, including Old Highway 395 and parts of West Lilac Road, remain closed as crews work to reinforce control lines and address potential hazards.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department (SDS) advised residents to remain cautious as firefighters continue their efforts. “Dust and noise will be present throughout the day and night, and smoke may still be visible in some areas, but there is no threat to the public,” the department noted.
