I Bought a $20 Couch at a Garage Sale, and It Changed My Life in a Day

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to spruce up my garage. I was turning it into a cozy guest room—nothing extravagant, just a simple spot for family or friends. All I needed was a cheap couch, something sturdy and functional.

That Saturday morning, I wandered into a garage sale. Among the items on display, a worn-out floral couch caught my eye. Its scuffed wooden legs and faint lavender scent gave it character, and it seemed perfect for what I needed.

The seller, Kristen, greeted me with a tired smile. She told me the couch had belonged to her late mother and held sentimental value. As we spoke, she mentioned her struggles, sharing that she was selling items to pay for her daughter’s leukemia treatment.

Her story tugged at my heart, and I agreed to buy the couch for $20. Kristen’s teenage son helped load it onto my truck, and I drove home, feeling like I’d made a meaningful purchase.
