A doctor was left stunned when a newborn baby was delivered holding something unexpected in his tiny hand—and after the photo was shared, it quickly went viral.

The unusual moment happened in northern Vietnam at Hai Phong International Hospital, where a woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy—despite having had an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted two years earlier as a form of contraception.

In a surprising twist, the baby was born clutching the IUD—a moment captured in a photo that has since spread across the internet. While the mother has chosen to remain anonymous, the image was shared by obstetrician Dr. Tran Viet Phuong, who delivered the child.

“After the delivery, I noticed he was holding the device,” Dr. Phuong explained. “I thought it was an interesting sight, so I took a picture. I never imagined it would receive this much attention.”
