Renowned for her outstanding abilities and leadership within the Navy, Evans took part in the historic all-female flyover at Super Bowl LVII in 2023, celebrating 50 years of women in naval aviation. Her participation in this event highlighted her position as a pioneer and mentor for aspiring female aviators.
Lt. Serena N. Wileman, also from California, served as a committed Naval Aviator. Commissioned in 2018, she became a member of the Electronic Attack Squadron 130, known as the “Zappers,” in 2021. Wileman’s dedication to excellence and her contributions to the squadron’s mission were widely acknowledged.
Both Evans and Wileman had recently returned from a prolonged deployment to the Middle East, where they supported operations in the Red Sea and executed missions over Yemen. Their service in these high-pressure environments showcased their bravery and commitment to national security.
The Crash: A Heartbreaking Loss
The EA-18G Growler, a two-seat electronic warfare aircraft, was engaged in a routine training flight when it crashed into a remote, forested area east of Mount Rainier at an altitude of approximately 6,000 feet. The difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions hindered search and rescue operations.
