On Monday, Trump promised to send more weapons to Ukraine. This marked a clear shift from his previous skepticism. The Financial Times further reported that Trump privately asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy if Ukraine could strike Moscow with long-range weapons.
A Rocky Relationship Between Trump and Zelenskyy
The relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy has been tense for years. During his campaign, Trump criticized U.S. aid to Ukraine, emphasizing an “America First” policy. He even claimed Ukraine started the conflict, not Russia.
The February meeting at the White House appeared to end hopes for further U.S. military aid under Trump’s leadership. But that stance has softened.
